Utilizing last column of the terminal

This will work only on unixes. If your natural terminal width is 80 in characters, issue 'stty cols 81' at command prompt before starting lynx, and issue 'stty cols 80' after exiting from it. If your lynx screen gets corrupted, you can try adding '-show_cursor=off' to your lynx commandline.
