Lynx FAQ: Proxies

Does lynx support proxies?
Yes, search for "proxy" in lynx.cfg.
I set http_proxy, but our proxy is an auto-proxy (or alternately a socks server). I do not see where I can give it a socks server (when I tried our socks server as http proxy I got .......... and when I set our autoproxy as my http proxy I get http 403 forbidden by rule error. If I use these in a Netscape browser (not fond of this bloated browser ... but it is right now my only externally capable browser), everything works great (specified of course as an autoproxy). Any way to spec an auto-proxy or a socks server (as you can tell, I am not overly socks literate).
To enable lynx for SOCKS support I followed is instructions for SOCKSsification through recompilation at http://www.socks.nec.com. This is only appropriate if you are already familiar with tweaking compiles.
Alternaticely, if you are running Linux or Solaris then look into runsocks. If you are running it under Win32 then take a look at http://www.hummingbird.com where you can download some code to SOCKSify your IP stack.
